Eco-Tourism: Book a sustainable UK vacation

Sustainability might not be the first thought when you think about your next holiday, but we are seeing changes in our way of thinking. We know that now especially during unprecedented times, we are very aware of the changes in our environment and we are striving to see it flourish, we long for cleaner air and we see more ways to co-exist with animals and nature. There are many ways for us to consider the way we travel, the way we eat and our behaviour when it comes to purchasing goods. We can feel better about the choices we make and choosing a ‘Green’ holiday, and to ultimately save our beautiful planet for future generations.

BCP Durley Chine Environmental Innovation Hub

One initiative is the build of the inspiring new Durley Chine Environmental Hub which is hoped to be completed very soon in Summer 2022. It is a place dedicated to educating the public about how our wonderful destination is making changes in the reduction of waste and how we are achieving the removal of single use packaging along the coast with the most which is Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’s seafront. The Hub is a place where millions of visitors can explore the effects that certain packaging has on the environment and on climate change and see first-hand how it impacts our coasts and oceans. Around 2,000 tons of waste is eliminated from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’s seafront each year, the Hub is made to raise more awareness regarding this and solutions such as recycling and it hopes to educate and alter the mindset of visitors coming to the BCP coast. Hopefully in time we see the reduction of waste and the Council and the public working together to combat climate change and to save our oceans and land.

Explore the area and hire a bicycle

Beryl Bikes is the bike share system covering Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. Bikes can be picked up from Beryl Bays located across the area, these can then be dropped off at any Beryl Bike Bay. Note: Cycling is prohibited along the Seafront promenades between the hours of 10am and 6pm during July and August. (Cycling between the Piers is permitted all year round).

Go on a nature walk

Find amazing hidden places, Poole has many spots were nature can be explored! If it's a stunning coastal walk you are looking for, then you are looking in the right place! There is good reason why Poole has been featured on the ITV series 'Julia Bradbury's Best British Walks' with a walk starting from Sandbanks in Poole, going out past Studland and onwards to the famous 'Old Harry Rocks'. Ramsar Sites

You could take a picnic from your lodge to one of the many Ramsar sites located across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole for a spot of nature watching. Ramsar is the name of the international treaty signed in the Iranian city of the same name for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands.

Poole Harbour is another beautiful location that is Ramsar approved - perfect for a chilled afternoon stroll. If you want to travel further afield why not take a trip to the Avon Valley path, a long-distance walking route from Salisbury to Christchurch? 34 miles spanning some of the most ecologically diverse and interesting countryside in the world, there is no better way to spend an afternoon or evening. More information on these superb, ecologically diverse spots is available in our dedicated blog.
