To help visitors choose the right accommodation, many businesses apply to be assessed as part of a Quality Scheme. These can be nationally recognised or locally run schemes and are designed to give reassurance about your choice of accommodation and reflect the overall quality of the experience.
The most well known are run by Visit England and the AA. Both schemes rate accommodation to the same criteria, awarding one to five stars. Please be aware that Star Gradings awarded to Hotels meet different criteria to Guest Accommodation.
Visit England Gold and Silver awards and AA Red and Yellow stars are given to those establishments who give exceptional service within that grade.
In Poole, some accommodation providers are part of a local assessment scheme such as Dorset Accreditation, which inspects to minimum quality standards and confirms that every establishment has carried out a Fire Risk Assessment and has Public Liability Insurance.

VisitEngland Welcome Awards highlight accommodation that provide specific welcomes to certain groups such as Walkers Welcome, Cyclists Welcome, Families Welcome, Pets Welcome.
Breakfast Awards - AA and Visit England.
Establishments that offer a quality and choice of breakfast, exceeding what would be expected at their star rating.
Green Tourism Awards - The Green Tourism Business Scheme is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK. Companies displaying this award show that they are implementing good environmental practices. Three levels can be achieved – Gold, Silver and Bronze.
David Bellamy Conservation Awards - are made to holiday parks which demonstrate an active concern for the environment. Three levels can be achieved – Gold, Silver and Bronze.
