Thursday 28th April will be the official opening day of the 2011 windsurfing season at the Poole Windsurfing school.

Davey Watt ready to launch Testimonial 11 Mar 2011

Poole Pirates skipper, Davey Watt is taking centre stage on Wednesday night, as he reveals plans for his testimonial meeting which takes place on 31st August at Poole Speedway. He will be speaking exclusively during a launch event on Wednesday night (9th March) at Poole Stadium's "Champs Bar" in Wimborne Road.  The returning Pirates captain will be telling fans what he has in store and is expected to announce some of the riders who have already agreed to take part, as well as what format the meeting will take, as he celebrates his ten years in British Speedway.  "I am determined to give the fans a really special occasion," says the popular Aussie; "I am well aware that I have had ten great years in the sport and the fans have helped to keep me where I am now. So I am thinking that the day is for them, as much as it is about me"  "I already have a few ideas about making it a memorable night and, with so many of my mates pitching in to help me out, I know it's going to be awesome. There is still a lot to be done but we have already made a good start and I can't wait to let people in on some of my plans."  Watt will be appearing on Wednesday at a special evening arranged by the Poole Riders Equipment Fund committee to launch his testimonial, as well as Mark Loram's farewell meeting later this month. The evening begins at 7.30pm and is open to members and non-members of the R.E.F. It is also planned to show the 2010 Award presentation first aired at the end of season dinner in November and which proved such a hit. 

Brilliance! Lights up Poole 10 Mar 2011

Poole will be banishing the dark nights with a spectacular display of light installations across the Town Centre and Poole Quay on 18-20 March, culminating in an illuminated Light on Time parade on 26 March.

Brilliance! festival art installations 2 Mar 2011

Coming soon to Poole is Brilliance!, a showcase of illuminated artworks which will be lighting  up the town centre in Mid March.  This will include works by local artists and pieces made at workshops held in the run up to the event.

Hare Off to Beaulieu for an Easter Egg-stravaganza 2 Mar 2011

During the Easter holidays, 9th- 25th April, young visitors to Beaulieu can join in a Hare-Brained Easter Trail. Look for the hares, find the answers to the clues and collect a sweet treat at the end of the trail. From Friday 22nd - Monday 25th April, every child will receive a tasty chocolate treat from the Easter Bunny in Palace House.

Rallye Sunseeker National Results 28 Feb 2011

Running the same stage miles as the International event, it was the Subaru WRC crew of Roger Duckworth and Aled Davies who came home victorious on the Rallye Sunseeker National event this year. A previous winner of the event, under the guise of the Bournemouth Winter rally in 1998, Duckworth overcame launch control issues and a 2min penalty to head home Colin Britton in a Mitsubishi Evo. Roger was happy at the finish in Bournemouth and said "I like this event, its well run and really enjoyable. We had a few issues this morning but we are happy to get to the end and earn a result". 

Rallye Sunseeker Dulux Trade MSA British Formula 2 Rally Results 28 Feb 2011

Siim Plangi took a maiden victory in the Formula 2 Championship here in Bournemouth, after a day long battle with team mate Mikko Pajunen in the Renault Twingo R2. It would have been a much closer finish between them had Pajunen not picked up a 30sec penalty earlier in the day. The crowds of spectators however were treated to some spectacular driving between the pair all day and it was one of the talking points of the rally. It was a great battle and certainly bodes well for the rest of the year.

Rallye Sunseeker - International Results 28 Feb 2011

It was a visibly elated David Bogie and Kevin Rae that crossed the finish ramp in Bournemouth to claim victory in the first round of the Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship, Rallye Sunseeker International. This follows his victory on the Scottish Championship last weekend. They came home 21.8 seconds ahead of Tom Cave and Craig Parry in the JRM Mitsubishi after a day long battle between the pair all day. David said at the finish "Its been a really good day here, and although we had a few scares along the way it was a great battle with Tom. 

Exbury's batty the vampire presents charity cheque 25 Feb 2011

For once Batty the Vampire was on the side of the good guys. The star of Exbury's fabulous and scary Hallowe'en Ghost Train kept his fangs in check as he presented more than £800 to children's cancer charity, CLIC Sergent. The money was raised at Exbury last Hallowe'en by Southampton City District Scouts who helped create a cast of ghostly characters for the rides. Batty (aka Stuart Grainger of the Exbury Garden Railway) made the presentation this week outside Exbury's engine shed.

Rockley International consolidates its partnership with Oman Sail 23 Feb 2011

Rockley International Trainer Andy Smith and ISAF appointed Trainer Tom Wilson have completed a Dinghy Instructor Training Course for Oman Sail at Marina Bander Al Rowdha, Muscat. The course which took place from 22 January - 2 February 2011 is the second such coaching course to run out in Oman and comes following the success of the 2010 Olympic Solidarity funded ISAF level 1 Technical Course.During January 2011 Rockley International Trainer Richard Percy also completed the first in a series of Turkey Yachting Federation (TYF) Dinghy Instructor Courses in Turkey, Cesme - both of these courses now mark the start of a new era of nationally recognised sail training within Oman and Turkey.ISAF appointed Trainer Tom Wilson said of the Omani candidates; "Having a group of individuals that are all keen to learn and assimilate information and advice passed on to them from more than one coach is wonderful."The Omani sailors all worked very hard to develop their own styles of coaching and over the ten days we spent with them have shown a huge increase in not only coaching skills but also personal technical sailing skills. If this level of dedication is upheld then there is no end to the achievements that they can accomplish."Eleven candidates, from a range of different backgrounds attended the ten- day course, the majority of whom will be joining Mohammed Al Balushi, (recently qualified Oman Sail Senior Instructor) at Oman Sails' new centre which opens this week at Musannah, where the 2010 Asian Beach Games were held. The Oman Sail project has come on a long way since it started and the new wave of Rockley International trained coaches are now ready to help expand the project and introduce more people to the sport of sailing within Oman.Neil Coxon, Director of Training at Oman Sail, said; "Having our Instructors at Oman Sail trained to internationally recognised standards means a great deal to us."Oman Sail has a strong relationship with the Ministry of Sport Affairs in Oman (The ISAF Member National Authority) and as such is keen to maintain the highest level of training possible.
