Voting open for the new Poole Park Quiet Garden 1 Nov 2016

Local people are being invited to vote for the Poole Park Quiet Garden project, which has been shortlisted for funding from Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative. Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000, all raised from the 5p bag charge. Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in around 400 Tesco regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags. Customers are able to vote in Tesco stores for their favourite scheme until Sunday 13 November. This funding will create a new Quiet Garden on the former go-karting site. Designed with the help of volunteers, the garden will provide a new experience for park users seeking calm and relaxation in an outdoor setting. The careful use of plants, paths and seating will add to the sensory experience. The project also aims to improve the wellbeing of park users, especially people with mental health issues, learning disabilities and people suffering from an illness or trauma. Cllr John Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: “I’m really pleased that our new Quiet Garden project has been shortlisted for funding from the Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative. This project brings back into use an area of the park which has fallen into disrepair and which is inaccessible to the public. I look forward to seeing this project develop in the coming months and it being a calm, tranquil place for our residents to relax and enjoy.” Martin Whitchurch, Poole Park Life Project Manager, Borough of Poole, said: “I would encourage people to vote at their local Tesco stores when doing their next weekly shop, especially as the more votes the project receives the greater the amount awarded! Our gardening volunteers have already started to clear some of the site and you can see the potential already, including some great views across the lake and the Cricket Pitch.”Find out more information visit pooleprojects.net or the Bags of Help website www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp.
