Event dates: 8 - 23 Apr 2017
Event address: Bucklers Hard, Beaulieu, SO42 7XB
Detailed map: multimap link will open in new window

About the event:

At Buckler’s Hard link will open in new window this Easter, learn about sailing history with tours on board record-breaking Gipsy Moth IV and hear tales of 18th century shipbuilding from living history characters.

On Good Friday (April 14th) and Easter Monday (April 17th) Buckler’s Hard visitors can chat to the crew on board Gipsy Moth IV, the yacht in which Sir Francis Chichester became the first sailor to single-handedly circumnavigate the globe.

The yacht will be moored at the bottom of the High Street, where Sir Francis began his epic voyage 50 years ago. Stories and artefacts from his adventure are on show in the Maritime Museum, including a map, personal items from the adventure and records of the floodings and a capsizing which put the journey at risk.

From April 8th – 23rd meet living history characters as they share unique stories from the time of Henry Adams, Buckler’s Hard Master Shipbuilder from 1744 to 1805. See displays in the labourers’ and shipwrights’ cottages and discover the viewing window in the floor of the St Mary’s Chapel, which is believed to have once been a store for smuggled contraband.

From now until April 21st you can also visit the artist Christine Mackey link will open in new window in residence at The Observatory. The two striking temporary structures – the artists’ studio The Study and public shelter The Workshop – stand on turntables with rotating handles to change the view across the stunning Beaulieu River.

Tickets for a visit to Buckler’s Hard can now be bought in advance online at £6.90 an adult, £6.40 for concessions, £4.70 for children (aged 5-17) and £19.70 for a family ticket (two adults and three children or one adult and four children).  For tickets or more information see link will open in new window.

New season annual passes are now available at £12.50pp or £33 a family and offer unlimited free visits to the village. Pass holders can also enjoy 5% off refreshments in the Captain’s Cabin Tea Rooms and a 10% discount on gift purchases from the gift shops.

Gipsy Moth IV will be open to Buckler’s Hard visitors between 10am and 4.30pm on April 14th and 17th. Voluntary donations to the Gipsy Moth Trust will be gratefully received.
